There has long been an understanding among most people in the county that septic systems play a role in contamination of wells. This research more clearly defines the problem and, hopefully, will help drive a broader community-wide conversation about solutions.

Farmers are demonstrating that we understand and accept our share in the responsibility. This is why Peninsula Pride Farms exists — to take ownership and find solutions. Clearly, the farming community has work to do to improve. We are encouraged to see from the research that the projects we have committed to are closely aligned with what the study shows to be the key challenges.

Finger pointing has gotten our community nowhere in the past. This is a complex issue that requires comprehensive solutions. All of us share in the responsibility of protecting the water.
