Peninsula Pride Farms to host conference and annual meeting Feb. 13
CASCO, Wis. (Feb. 4, 2019) — Peninsula Pride Farms will hold its conference and annual meeting Feb. 13 at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds in Luxemburg, the farmer-led conservation group announced today.
The event will showcase speakers on a variety of topics in modern sustainable agriculture. Experts from within the Door-Kewaunee Peninsula area, across the state and nation will share information that can be applied to farms locally and beyond.
More than 100 farmers, agribusiness professionals and community members are expected to attend this free educational event. The public is invited.
Ewell Smith, Gulf & Louisiana seafood ambassador, will give a keynote presentation about overcoming challenges in times of crisis. As the former Executive Director of the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board, Ewell led the Louisiana and Gulf seafood communities through two of the nation’s largest disasters, Hurricane Katrina and the BP oil spill. He will call on his experiences to show what northeast Wisconsin farmers can learn from the Louisiana seafood community.
The conference will also include updates from local and state agencies currently engaged in projects with Peninsula Pride Farms.
Following a seafood lunch, the group will have a choice of three (3) 10-minute table stations. Topics will include interseeding cover crops, surface water flumes, bioreactor and nutrient recovery systems, stream watershed testing, composting and several additional topics.
The public conference will conclude at 2 p.m. A members-only business meeting will follow from 2-3 p.m.
